My Story

An overview of my experiences in medicine, research and entrepreneurship.

Introduction

Hello!

Thank you for visiting my website! I hope you are finding my content valuable.

This page is a little self-indulgent as it is about me but I thought it would be good to share a little background about myself, to help contextualise the content I share.

If you’re looking for a complete list of the facts, feel free to take a look at my CV. Follow my social media links below.

Clinical Work

I am a Foundation Year 2 Medical Doctor, working in the UK. This means I finished medical school nearly two years ago and am undertaking the general part of my medical training, before specialising. I have worked in a number of specialties, including ENT, plastic surgery, maxillofacial surgery, acute medicine, medicine of the elderly, psychiatry and oncology. I currently work acute medicine.

I also have a masters degree in anatomy and completed a bachelors degree in neuroscience before starting medical school.

Research

I am a clinical academic – this means I have dedicated time to carry out my own research, in addition to my clinical work. I’m fortunate to have such time, as it enables me to try to develop innovative solutions for the many challenges facing patients and ultimately can lead to better diagnosis and treatments.

The bulk of my research focuses on the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in healthcare. I believe AI is a transformational technology that has the possibility to revolutionise care for patients. However, I am mindful of the myriad challenges facing the development of AI in medicine, including safety, equity and bias.

Entrepreneurship

I am an accidental entrepreneur. First and foremost, I enjoy solving interesting and challenging problems. Over the years, I have found that the best vehicle for doing this at scale is entrepreneurship.

Over the years I have learned a number of hard lessons in entrepreneurship and am keen on sharing advice, strategies and tools that have helped me along the way.

Neuroscience

Prior to starting medical school, I completed a bachelors degree in neuroscience. This was a wonderful introduction to the most amazing, endlessly fascinating piece of machinery in the known universe – the human brain.

In my work as a doctor, I have seen first hand the debilitating effects of neurological disease on patients and am committed to research in the clinical neurosciences. I am increasingly interested in understanding how we can promote better brain health and I try to share resources and articles related to this.

Why Did I Set Up This Website?

For those of you who know me in the real world, this is probably the most important question! I’m not sure there is a straightforward answer to this.

On one level, the truth is quite macabre – I am increasingly cognisant of my own impending mortality (perhaps a side effect of being a doctor, where you become well-acquainted to death, dying and sickness).

I recognise that I been fortunate enough to have lived a rich and fulfilled life and if nothing else would like to share some of the experiences, musings and ramblings locked inside my head. I hope that they will be useful to someone, somewhere, someday.

Take a look around and see if anything catches your fancy. If you would like to get in touch with me please submit the form below. I am always on the lookout for new opportunities for collaboration.
